Misleading the Flock

There is no way to say this without offending some of you but it is a growing concern so I'll take the hit. I keep hearing troubling stories of people in self-proclaimed positions of spiritual leadership teaching their own thoughts and feelings while presenting them as gospel. Some crash and burn and are exposed for who they really are. Some are better at playing the role. In this day and age we turn to "Christian Celebrities" and tend look to them for to teach and guide us. There are some big names out there, some of which are heard daily on our radio station who can talk the talk and have most of us saying "Amen" in the background. My question is who deemed them leaders? Oh sure, they sell books and tapes and have huge audiences, yet something just seems wrong about it. We have all these people who call themselves experts, running around with good intentions and their carefully crafted, yet fallible interpretation of the scripture. They say some things we agree with and many of us follow like lemmings. You can go online and :30 or less be ordained. Any yahoo with a Bible (Oh wait, Bible is now optional) can start a church. (Makes a great tax shelter!) That's why Brother Goof who attends The First Church of the Jedi Knights tells me eating processed cheese will send me to hell. Or Sister Notaclue who goes to the Reformed evangelical USA Church of the Lost and Found thinks all electric guitar music is the voice of the devil. Ok, I'm being a bit extreme here but there are ideas that are downright false, misleading and dangerous to the unity of Christians. We continue to drift farther away from the true teachings of the church and more toward the teachings of mere men all in an attempt to create an environment that pleases us. So as you put on your Christian music, and wear your Christian T-shirt and read the latest book from Dr. Divinity and gather with others at your customized church of choice, do you really know what truth is outside the world you created?

What if Prozac had been around? Would the Reformation have happened if Luther had been in therapy?
