Susan Rauscher, a longtime director of social advocacy for the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, has been named executive director of Catholic Charities of Pittsburgh. She had served as its interim executive director since September, when she replaced Patricia McCullough.
Ms. Rauscher has worked for the diocese for nearly a decade, most recently as secretary of the Secretariat for Social Concerns. She has long been a principal organizer and spokesman for the diocese on a wide range of issues, including abortion and care for the poor. Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh includes a network of social services in six counties that last year served nearly 108,000 people, regardless of the recipient's religious affiliation. Last year it opened a free health clinic for the uninsured in its Downtown headquarters.
