MCCAIN TAKES SOUTH CAROLINA, ROMNEY TAKES NEVADA

From Robert Novak: It means that McCain by any measurement is the front-runner for the Republican nomination. He leads in Florida's Jan. 29 primary, and a victory there would send him into what is virtually a national primary on Feb. 5 threatening to wipe out his competition. (RealClearPolitics)

From Michael Medved: It’s obvious that the big winner in South Carolina was John McCain (grabbing 33% of the vote in a hard-fought win and 19 of the 22 awarded delegates). And later: … even among the most right wing segment of the South Carolina electorate, talk radio failed – and failed miserably – in efforts to destroy and discredit Huckabee and McCain. (Townhall)

From Ruffini: Mitt Romney is fast becoming the candidate of conservatives in the suburbs and the exurbs. In Michigan, he dominated Oakland and Macomb counties with 46% of the vote in a multi-candidate field. In Nevada, he won most convincingly in Clark County. In Iowa, he did better in Des Moines than elsewhere in the state. (Townhall)

Meanwhile, Giuliani camps in Florida. (Boston Globe) But few polls have him leading – as it’s pretty jumbled near the top. (RealClearPolitics)

An early morning “developing” story by Drudge claims Rasmussen now has Romney up in Florida by 5 over McCain.
