STORY: HUCKABEE IS MCCAIN’S TOP VP CHOICE

Story explains “here is the logic of picking Huckabee: 1) He is a great campaigner and communicator who could both shore up support in the South among social conservatives (Huckabee is a former Baptist minister) and appeal to working-class voters in the critical "Big 10" states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio. 2) As any pollster knows, voters search for candidates who "care about people like me," and Huckabee would probably score a lot higher on that quality than millionaire investor Mitt Romney. Plus, given all the turmoil on Wall Street, 2008 would seem to be a bad year to pick a former investment banker for veep. 3) Economic conservatives and supply-siders may balk, but the threat of four years of Obamanomics and higher investment, income, and corporate taxes might be enough to keep them on board.

DEMOCRATS BARE MUCH BLAME FOR HIGH GAS PRICES

From the story: Under the eight Clinton years alone, U.S. oil production declined 1,349,000 barrels per day, or 19%, while our foreign imports increased 3,574,000 barrels per day, or 45%. During this time, President Clinton vetoed ANWR drilling bills that would have clearly made Alaska our No. 1 state in the production of our own vitally needed oil supply, not only for all Americans but also for national defense emergencies.

MEDIA SHOCKED THAT MCCAIN REMAINS COMPETITIVE

With the negative views of Bush and the direction of the country one has to ask "How bad do the Democrats Suck?" Ok, you don't have to ask it that way, but you could.

From the Washington Post: Those findings indicate that McCain continues to elude some of the anger aimed at his party and at President Bush, whose approval ratings dipped to an all-time low in Post-ABC polling. (Washington Post)

Time Magazine gives McCain advice on how to beat Obama. (Time) Meanwhile, the public still doesn’t know Cindy McCain. (Washington Times)

What the press doesn't get is just because people are angry does not mean they are justified. If I say your an idiot you might be angry with me. However, if you really are an idiot, then your anger doesn't change the fact that I'm right. :)

College Cancels Pro-Abortion Commencement Speaker

Presentation College in South Dakota, a Catholic institution, withdrew its invitation to a pro-abortion commencement speaker and instead invited the local Catholic bishop to address graduates last weekend.

Nancy Turbak Berry, a state senator, was reportedly told by college officials that they had made an “administrative decision” to withdraw the invitation because her pro-abortion views were incompatible with Catholic Church teachings. Bishop Paul Swain of the Diocese of Sioux Falls gave the commencement address to the 171 graduating students instead.

Patrick J. Reilly, President of The Cardinal Newman Society (CNS), applauded the move: “Presentation College has honored its Catholic identity and has demonstrated respect for the dignity of human life by reversing its selection of a vocal abortion advocate for public honor. Faithful Catholic students, parents and alumni across the country are grateful to Sister Lorraine Hale for withdrawing Senator Berry's invitation.”

As reported in a Boston Globe article on Monday, CNS has identified a declining number of scandalous speakers at Catholic colleges over the past three years. CNS will release a list of 2008 commencement speakers later this week.

Pennsylvania Voter Identification Protection Act To Be Re-Introduced

Armed with a recent United States Supreme Court ruling upholding the ability of each individual state to require valid photo identification at polling places in order to reduce voter fraud, State Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) will host a press conference today (Tuesday, May 13th) to reintroduce the Pennsylvania Voter Identification Protection Act.

Joining State Representative Metcalfe are Representatives Stephen Barrar (R-Chester/Delaware), Sue Helm (R-Dauphin), Rob Kauffman (R-Cumberland/Franklin), and House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny).

Last time this was attempted, veto threats by Gov. Rendell ended up watering the legislation down to only a requirement that new, first time voters must present an ID. Watch for the usual suspects to appose this effort, claiming that it is a poll tax, despite the fact that photo IDs will be issued for free to anyone who needs it.
