Pennsylvania Voter Identification Protection Act To Be Re-Introduced

Armed with a recent United States Supreme Court ruling upholding the ability of each individual state to require valid photo identification at polling places in order to reduce voter fraud, State Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) will host a press conference today (Tuesday, May 13th) to reintroduce the Pennsylvania Voter Identification Protection Act.

Joining State Representative Metcalfe are Representatives Stephen Barrar (R-Chester/Delaware), Sue Helm (R-Dauphin), Rob Kauffman (R-Cumberland/Franklin), and House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny).

Last time this was attempted, veto threats by Gov. Rendell ended up watering the legislation down to only a requirement that new, first time voters must present an ID. Watch for the usual suspects to appose this effort, claiming that it is a poll tax, despite the fact that photo IDs will be issued for free to anyone who needs it.
