(Harrisburg Patriot) Many Pennsylvanians were under the impression that a new state law limited how much school districts could raise their property tax rates. Turns out there might be no teeth in the law to enforce it.
Act 1 of 2006, called the Taxpayer Relief Act, permitted the district to raise taxes by only 5.1 percent unless it sought the approval to exceed that amount from district voters, the state Department of Education or a court.
