Mad in China

China is prepared to destroy "hundreds” of American cities if it is attacked by the U.S. during a confrontation over Taiwan, a Chinese general said on Thursday.

He added that China’s definition of its "territory” includes warships and aircraft, according to a report in the Financial Times. "If the Americans are determined to interfere, we will be determined to respond,” said the general, who’s also a professor at China’s National Defense University.

"We will prepare ourselves for the destruction of all of the cities east of Xian. Of course, the Americans will have to be prepared that hundreds of cities will be destroyed by the Chinese.”

Gen. Zhu said his views did not represent official Chinese policy. And some U.S.-based China experts said he probably did not represent the mainstream People’s Liberation Army view.

The general’s remarks came as the Pentagon is preparing to brief Congress on the Chinese military next week.

While I don't really have a strong, well informed, formulated opinion of whether or not we should interfere, the fact that they would threaten to use nuclear weapons on "hundreds of cities" is quite sobering, and also frightening. Over the past number of years, our economy has become completely dependent on the Chinese. But hey, we're Americans! Buying cheap crap trumps all, doesn't it? National security, offshoring of both blue collar and technical jobs, slave labor...

It is to the point now where you can hardly buy ANYTHING without it, or at least some part of it, being made in China. I wonder how much of our military equipment and ammunition is made over there. Think they'll keep selling it to us if we go to war???

Remember that the next time you shop at Wal-Mart.

To that, many Americans would respond with "Oh, shut up with that trivial crap! Survivor is on!!!"
