No Gas Holiday, Dems Say

From the story: The gas tax holiday supported by presidential candidates Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) will be dead on arrival in the House, Democrats made plain Thursday.

Fascinating that Senator Barack Obama opposes the gas tax holiday, which would suspend the 18.4 cents-per-gallon federal tax, but wants to add additional taxes on oil companies' “windfall profits”. While profit figures vary, it appears that oil companies' profits based on a per-gallon of gas don’t come close to the federal tax rate. So who exactly is doing the gouging?
