Defending the Family

Last week I briefly spoke on behalf of the PA Family Institute. As we welcomed Jim Daly, President of Focus on the Family, I took the opportunity to share a few thoughts and the battle being waged every day by PFI.

Working in media and especially Christian media over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with many great ministries and organizations all with a desire to make this world a better place. There is no shortage of work to be done and there are plenty of groups that deserve our praise and financial support. Let me briefly tell you, as a husband and a father, why I personally believe the work of the PA Family Institute is vital to us all.

At the core of any society what you find is the family. We all have families for better or worse. Weather in laws or outlaws, love them or loath them, those are the people that God has assigned to you.

When Christ came to us, he did not appear in a magical puff of smoke. He was born as a child into a family. The first act of Jesus was to give us that beautiful picture of the Holy Family. Mother, Father and child. That was not by accident. It has been that way since the beginning of creation. Yet today some say that’s a change is due. They seek to distort the very idea of family. They fight to redefine what marriage means. It’s no longer a plea for tolerance. It’s a demand that we conform, that we dismiss our principles, compromise our morals, condone and accept these changes even within the church and sadly some are doing just that.

This destructive social revolt has brought a wave of challenges to state marriage laws in almost a dozen states and Pennsylvania is not immune. Yet what many don’t realize is you can change all the man made laws you want, however, the laws of God do not change with lobbying efforts, protests or activism. God’s law can not be amended.

Most of us get a glimpse of the battle now and then through the news. The PA Family Institute is in the battle everyday. I’m sure all of us would give our life to protect our family from a physical threat. What we face today is a spiritual threat, which is even more dangerous. The mission of PA Family Institute is to strengthen families, honor and defend marriage as defined by our creator, educate and inspire people participate in their government, to hold our leaders accountable and defend the values essential to our state and our nation.

What will the future look like for our children and future generations? Will family have any value? Will marriage be anything and everything? Will traditional morals and values be considered antiquated and discriminatory? That will all be answered in time by those who choose to passionately respond.

I ask all my readers to take a moment and visit the PA Family Institute website. Take a look at the work they are doing and consider if you might financially support their efforts.
