100 People Who Are Screwing Up America

Paris Hilton's parents; the Rev. Al Sharpton; the guy who gave us "Fear Factor". At first glance, they don't have a lot in common. But they are linked for eternity in a new book, "100 People Who Are Screwing Up America (and Al Franken Is # 37)."

100 People" is the latest in a trilogy by Bernard Goldberg, an Emmy-winning former CBS News correspondent, who hit the jackpot in 2001 with "Bias," a book on the alleged liberal leanings of the media. His follow-up was "Arrogance," again decrying liberals. The books became bestsellers after they were widely touted by conservative think tanks, blogs and talk-radio folks.

The main issue in "100 People" is that America has lost its civility, and its public demeanor is held hostage by trashy TV shows and celebrities, where profanity and near-nudity are the only way to get a producer's (and the consumer's ) attention. But Goldberg admitted that it's the list that will get the publicity for the book itself.

The top 20 include Sen. Edward Kennedy, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Democratic Chairman Howard Dean and billionaire George Soros, who spent millions to defeat Bush in last year's presidential election.

His list is pretty "right on," IMHO. People of color are underrepresented, though.

What kind of ignorant douchebag leaves a comment like that?

A douchbag who wants equal treatment under the correct opinions of Mr. Goldberg. So here are a few:
Louis Farakkan, Mike Tyson, and Bill Cosby...

Given Mr Goldberg's emphasis on profanity in the public discourse, I gotta wonder where he placed Dick "Go Fuck Yourself! (on the Senate floor)" Cheney in the list?

With Cheney surely listed, along with Texas Governor Rick "Adios, MoFo!" Perry, and Karl "We will fuck him. .. Like no one has ever fucked him!" Rove, this book should be most enlightening.

If it's logical to think that a list of largely those in the entertainment industry are actually screwing up the country
then I completely understand that this is coming from the same kind of people who think global warming needs more study. In any case Bernard Goldberg stands to make alot of money off of the irrational political discorse in this country that thinks Rappers and a former President that volunteers for habitat for humanity are more of a detriment to this country then an administration that ignores terrorist's threats until it's too late then use's that fear to gain support for an illegal invasion of subsequent war in Iraq.

Here's a list of a few others that are screwing up America that he forgot.

1)George W Bush
2)Dick Cheney
3)Donald Rumsfeld
4)Condolezza Rice
5)Sean Hannity
6)Ann Coulter
7)John Bolton
8)Jerry Falwell
9)Kenneth Lay (former Enron
CEO)
10)Rick Santorium (Repugnican Sen.
Pennsylvania)

Bernard Goldberg said on the Daily Show recently while plugging his new book "What if we had a Bigot channel?" That channel that Jon Stewart facetiously said was NBC was in fact Fox news and of course CBN (Christian Broadcast News) No two networks have mischaracterized people that are politically acceptible to pick on in Bush's America more then those two.

Goldberg is a walking contradiction. He also says on Stewart that there here is a culture war going on and he "would like to be a conscientious objector in it." Really? Interesting comment from a guy who wrote a book fueling the culture war and begins all of his interviews talking about the coarsening of culture.

He also talks about the civility of discourse while appearing on every cable news shoutfest and talk radio show on the air. Shows which feature little more than opponents being shouted down in the interview segments which break up monologues attacking individuals or groups as dictated by daily talking points.

Also if he is serious about the coarsening of culture and entertainment where is Rupert Murdoch? The Australian pornographer (The London Sun is on the web - I direct you to page 3 if you have any problem with that statement) who brought you FOX and Married with Children, The Simpsons, and countless sex-filled reality shows such as Temptation Island and The Littlest Groom among others.

Where are Parker & Stone the creators of the hilarious South Park and conservative favorite becasue they occasionally ridicule the same people that conservatives find annoying (read hate). The show while occasionally echoing anarcho-libertarian sentiments pleasing to some conservatives also feature shows that include "sh!t" counters, Red Hot Catholic love and masterbating family pets.

It's all a very cute attempt by a charlatan to cash in on the conservative love machine (after all only Bush-obsessed liberals hate).

anyone who really expected a balanced and unbiased look at today's culture from one of the right's leading culture warriors is hopelessly out of touch. As for Bob Novak, can anyone say "douchebag of liberty?"

It is no suprise that everyone bashing this book has blogged profanity ridden comments. You are all quick to point out other problems you perceive with our country while bashing Glodberg for not writting about your complaints. HE wrote the book so it is a book filled with his opinion. If you have another opinion write your own book, dont expect someone successful to be your voice.

did the author of this blog steal his first paragraph from the seattle times or did they take it from him? http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2002357581_mcdermott05m.html

Dick Cheney isn't on the list because he said what he said PRIVATELY, which is A-OK by us "Conservative assholes!"
