In a look at Mitt Romney, the article also states “Some branches of Christianity do not embrace the Mormon Church. On its website, the Southern Baptist Convention includes Mormonism in a section called "cults, sects and new religious movements." Kenyn Cureton, a vice president of the Baptist convention, says his church does not regard Mormons as Christians.”

I'm a Baptist. I would definately vote for a Catholic, because I fully believe that Catholics ARE Christians and many Catholics are in fact saved.
I'm a Catholic and I would not support John Kerry. That's because what the Catholic church teaches and what Kerry Does are two very different things.
I know what you mean, Powerball. Clinton and Gore are both Baptists. :/
To most Evangelicals and Fundamentalists, Catholics aren't Christians -- just like the Mormons. As an Evangelical, I'm an exception to that... but then again, someone's being Mormon would not be the reason I would vote for or against him.
Note to Rob - generalities like this hold absolutely no credibility, anybody to repeat them shows thier ignorance.
Salvation is INDEPENDANT of ANY RITE, CREED or DENOMINATION, CATHOLIC OR OTHERWISE.
I take it that you blieve Mormons to be Christian. What makes them so? Or what makes one a Chirstian and one not?
But can anyone find out if the Southern Baptist Convention lists Catholics as non-Christians?
I think I found something to the contrary ... this article outlines some fundamental differences between RC & SB ... but it is also faithful and balanced by showing how they are united in Christ.

That hasn't been my experience at all. There are a number who don't believe Catholics are Christians, but I believe they are just an extremely vocal minority.
I believe that percentage is about equal with those Catholics that don't believe that "Protestants" are Christians.
An unrelated question addressed to everyone: If you would vote for a Mormon, would you vote for a Scientologist?
I also read, and I think it was on this blog, that several Baptist organization came to the aid of the Roman Catholic Church on some legal matters a while ago.
Darn my failing memory!!!
I think there are fewer than you think, Rob. The "Jack Chick" line of thinking seems to be dying out (as well it should), at least with my fellow Baptists that I know.
Hm... Well, on your original point, I'd be MORE than willing to vote for a Catholic if they were a conservative.
John Kerry was not a conservative, so I didn't vote for him.
Yeah but would you vote for PowerBall? *wink*
Fo sho! Vote for Pedro & PBall ...
Rob - what part of your main point was missed?
