GEORGE WILL ON THE RIGHT MINIMUM WAGE: $0
Writing for the Washington Post, Will is concerned about the Democratic Party’s “New Deal Nostalgia.” He sees this reflected in calls to raise the minimum wage. He concludes: “But the minimum wage should be the same everywhere: $0. Labor is a commodity; governments make messes when they decree commodities’ prices. Washington, which has its hands full delivering the mail and defending the shores, should let the market do well what Washington does poorly.”

I have to sort of agree with rob here, with the qualifier that unrestrained capitalsim CAN be evil. We saw the fruits of it during the industrial revolution.
Abolishing the minimum wage in my belief would be a bad idea. However, I don't believe it should be raised beyond its present level at this time, and it could even stand to be lowered a bit.
Who said anything about unrestratined economy? The Fed controls inflation and interest rates but the Min. Wage set the market price for a worker. Good worker, bad worker that all start at the same price.
If the kid a McD's gets a raise mandated by the Government don't we all feel like we should also get a raise? It outs blood in the water for unions, raises the price for customers and my in fact cost jobs.
They don't pay enough, then don't work there. I'd prefer Uncle Sam stay out of it.
Why do you assume that every bussiness owner is rich? There are people who take a risk and work very hard to earn a bit of money. Most "rich" people were not always that way. They worked at it. I'm not standing with anyone I just thing the government should stay out of it. As wages are forced up, so do the income taxes Washington gets.

..and so do prices. Ultimately, we pay for every government sponsored "punishment" on corporations. That pesky "cause and effect" thing will get you every time. ;)
