A cruel irony of Superior Court Judge Michael Joyce's wise decision to abandon his retention bid and resign rather than try to convince voters to ignore the federal charges that he defrauded two insurance companies out of $440,000 is that a small handful of the most disconnected people in the state will choose his replacement
On Saturday, about 500 people will choose two more candidates -- one Republican and one Democratic -- for the state's second-highest appeals court.
Republican and Democratic state committee people will decide the nominees during meetings in Harrisburg area hotels on Friday and Saturday. Read more....
Unfortunately, there is no accountability at these state committee meetings.
Are you a pro-life Republican and want to know if the Republican state committee members elected from your county voted to endorse a pro-choice judicial candidate (IE: Jane Earll) over a pro-life judicial candidate (IE: Jackie Shogun)? Good luck finding out, individual votes are not recorded or made public. Even individual attendance is not published. There is no way to tell if your elected state committee members represented your values, much less if they even bothered to show up.
