Crunch the numbers, run the polls, assemble the focus groups and the outcome is still the same.
I hate to be so negative but no matter how you cut it the Democrats will win in November. Even if the name plate on the oval office reads "John McCain" the Democrats win. That's because John McCain is an unofficial Democrat.
To be blunt conservatives are screwed. Sen. John McCain was very close to leaving the Republican Party in 2001, weeks before then-Sen. Jim Jeffords (Vt.) famously announced his decision to become an Independent. That's according to former Democratic lawmakers who say they were involved in the discussions.
Former Sen. Tom Daschle and ex-Rep. Tom Downey said there were nearly two months of talks with the McCain following an approach by John Weaver, McCain’s chief political strategist.
Despite this we have some folks who try to sell McCain as a conservative. Sorry, I'm not buying it. You may have a case that McCain is the lesser of three evils but that doesn't lessen the stench in the voting booth for me personally.
Let's just start talking about the 2012 race because this one will have one winner and the rest of us all lose.
