Now it's unethical to fly. So much for that frequent flyer card....
Here's the pitch:
The planet should not have to suffer the consequences of a fast-growing air-travel industry. Hence, the argument goes, an ethical consumer should think twice before buying plane tickets. Well you can buy the ticket if it's printed on recycled paper. Just don't use it.
Anglican Bishop John Chartres said flying abroad to vacation is a "symptom of sin" because it ignores "an overriding imperative to walk more lightly upon the earth." Huh? I'm flying above the earth. It's doesn't get any lighter.
There is an already suffering industry here. We are talking people's jobs. These folks would just toss that all aside. I guess UN members would have to take a sail boat to meetings. It's going to be a real burden for the many environmental activists (rock stars and Al Gore) who fly in private jets from place to place to raise fears of global warming.
