Are We Bribed?

Does God "bribe" us with the promise of salvation? We talked about it on the show. I want to know what you think. If you were not rewarded with eternal life would you still be a Christian? (Assuming you are) Let me know what you think.

How can you call this bad when God uses it all through the bible, only He calls it a promise. Starting with Abraham and ending with Christ God uses the promise to entice us to do good. Nelson Lash

I cannot say with any confidence that God has bribed his creation with eternity. I will speak for myself and say that I came to Christ and he found me through my desperation and overall need for Him when I was at a low point in life (like I would imagine a circumstance like this has precipitated many others to seek and come to him as well). I wasn’t fully aware of securing spot in eternity through my relationship with Christ, as I learned more about that concept later in my walk, but I can say that when I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior, I did so from an internal LONGING for him and the desire to draw closer to him to make things right in my life. In summary, so to say I was bribed by Christ with eternity in mind, would be false in my opinion.

Oh come on guys, this ones almost too easy. Satan accused God of the very same thing. Satan wagered that if God withheld his blessings that Job would cut and run. God took his bet and Satan lost!

by your own definition....punishment is a
"bribe"...(used to induce certain behavior)...
just negative...instead of positive....and you say you
believe in punishment .....
i truly believe that God set up the "reward system"...
or "bribe system"....and it's GOOD...!
go Powerball....!!!
Blessings....

never felt that eternal life was a bribe from God to accept His gift of forgiveness through Christ. It was my sin that kept me out of heaven and sentenced me to eternal death to begin with, so when I came to a realization of my total depravity before God and the atoning work of Jesus Christ on my behalf, I couldn't help but ask for that forgiveness and accept the gift of forgiveness. When God forgave me of my sins, my relationship to Him was restore (no sin blocking it) and I was moved into eternal life. It was never a bribe. Would I be a Christian today if I wasn't promised eternal life? The question is mute. I am a Christian today BECAUSE I have eternal life through Christ! Powerball has some theology issues.

Definition of bribe – anything given or promised as an inducement, to do something illegal or wrong.
God is good – two words that are not in the person of God “illegal and wrong” God is good all the time and all the time God is good.

I was thinking about the word bribe. What do people do as a parents when they want to get their children to change a behavior? When the parent wants a 2 yr. old to go on the potty, they may give stickers or M&M's or other small "rewards" when their child completes a certain behavior. When an older child behaves badly and the parent wants to change that behavior he/she will discipline (hopefully) or give "rewards" The rewards differ as the behavior differs.

I am a preschool teacher. When I catch the child behaving as I want him/her to behave I give a word of praise or "smiley face" or other designated "reward". Since I relate my Christian walk with that of parents/teachers and 4 year olds, I can see that God has not bribed us as much as given us a "reward" for our "good behavior" if you could to call it that.

That's my perspective on the whole situation.

Sincerely,

Lynanne

The created owes allegiance to the Creator, whether or not the Creator offers anything to the created in return. In Hell, the damned are still bound to worship God. At least, that's how I feel.
