Closing in on his front-runner opponent in the polls, Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., came out swinging in the first and probably the only public debate with Pennsylvania State Treasurer Bob Casey.
He may have delivered a knockout blow to Casey, who appeared confused and inarticulate during his encounter with the fast-talking Santorum during their weekend debate on NBC's "Meet the Press" with host Tim Russert.
Writing at SantorumBlog, contributor Rich Talbert observed: "Casey was a dead stick when discussing Iraq ... was absolutely clueless about Social Security ... bombed with Catholics with the abortion pill ... dropped the ball on the pay raise ... but did a good job coming across as sophomoric and being awfully smug and sarcastic.”
During the debate, which lasted for just short of a full hour, Casey bobbed and weaved when questioned about such issues as how he would balance the budget, and whether he would have voted to support the invasion of Iraq.

That isn't quite what their web site says:
Plan B® may also work by preventing it from attaching to the uterus.
Come on Rob. That means your science could be outdated at some point as well.
When you step outside of God's plan you ask for trouble. I believe that a birth control pill has the potential to cause an abortion. I;m not even talking plab B here. There is not one person that can show me for sure that it does not.
The science they're using to back that statement is outdated. Apparently, the lawyers won't let them update it.
IF that is true, then it is indeed good news. But according to the FDA, they say the same thing, that it may stop implantation.
Ugh. It is difficult finding any scientific on this subject. Everything I've come across is spin from one side or the other.
However, if the FDA says it may prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the womb, and that was the information Santorum had, then he didn't lie.
Santorum lied.
Lying requires knowledge of the truth and a deliberate attempt to decieve. Only Santorum knows if he lied or not. If you are correct about Plan B, and the information he had was from the FDA, then he was merely mistaken.
To be honest, I can't find any scientific evidence on it either way. Since it is such an emotionally charged issue, there is nothing but opinion out there.
I pray to God you are right, Rob. And if you are, I will give my full support to Plan B. Care to direct me to the studies?
Powerball said that contraception is the moral equivalent of abortion.
I didn't get that from his statement personally. Powerball, care to comment?
I'm not willing to go so far as to say contraception equals abortion. I do think that it is possible for a woman using a contracpetive pill to possibly cause an abortion without knowing it.
Back in Nov. of 2004 we had two doctors live on the air. They both had differing opinions on when life begins. Is it when the egg is fertilized or when it attaches to the wall? You answer to that has much to do with your views.
What the two doctors did agree on is the fact that there is a lot we just don't know. We can't say for certain that the use of birth control does not and never will cause an abortion. That is the one fact in this whole debate we need to put in neon lights.
All of the "Pro-life Christians" need to understand.... It is possible by using birth control pills to cause (albeit unknowingly) an abortion.
With all due repsect to Rob, I'm not ignoring science. I'm questioning if we are embracing these "new scientific discoveries" because they are safe and moral or because it's convenient and brushes away personal responsiblity?
I'm not in favor of ending human life in any case. I also know that I can not force my views on others. All I ask is that all the pro-lifers out there stop and think this over a bit.
Rob-
Thanks for your thoughts. The case of rape is very hard. I can;t imagine having to face that. I still must say that there is an uneasiness in my heart when it comes to the point of "take this or you may become pregnant". If you are stopping a child from being born you are awful close to crossing the moral line.
According to the Manufacturer of PLAN-B...
"Emergency contraceptives are not effective if the woman is already pregnant. Plan B is believed to act as an emergency contraceptive principally by preventing ovulation or fertilization (by altering tubal transport of sperm and/or ova). In addition, it may inhibit implantation (by altering the endometrium). It is not effective once the process of implantation has begun."
