Santorum 'Closing Hard'

U.S. Senator Rick Santorum has gained ground in his bid to win re-election,according to a new poll released Monday. The poll of 800 very likely generalelection voters, was conducted by McCulloch Research & Polling, an independentpolling company out of Chicago, on November 4-5.

Santorum's opponent, State Treasurer Bob Casey, Jr., led the incumbent Senator48.1-44.1%, according to the poll. "Senator Santorum has a history of closinghard at the end of his campaigns," said pollster Rod McCulloch. "It looks likethis campaign will be no different."

Treasurer Casey racks up his largest margin geographically in SoutheastPennsylvania, where he leads Senator Santorum 53.7%-37.1% in the regionencompassing Philadelphia and surrounding counties.

Senator Santorum, who racked up overwhelming majorities during his last electionin 2000 in Central and Northwestern Pennsylvania, is seeing some of thosevoters returning to the fold, according to the poll. The second term Senator leads in Central Pennsylvania (55.1-38.8%), South Central Pennsylvania(55.0-44.1%), Northeastern Pennsylvania (54.6%-38.1%), and NorthwesternPennsylvania (48.3%-41.4%).

In addition to the Philadelphia area, Treasurer Casey also leads Santorum in theSouthwestern Pennsylvania area surrounding Pittsburgh (49.5%-41.0%).

To close the gap with Casey, Santorum also needs his base of conservative voters to come home in large numbers. That appears to be happening, according to the poll, with 79.8% of Republican voters, and 91.0% of conservative Republican voters choosing the pro-life Senator over the pro-life State Treasurer.Santorum also leads among younger older voters over age 60 (46.0%-44.6%), andwhite voters (48.4%-43.9%). Casey leads among all other age groups, as well asamong voters who identify themselves as Independents (49.0%-39.3%), andAfrican-American voters (79.8%-14.6%).

The election, like many around the nation, will most likely be decided by whichparty can get their voters to the polls in higher numbers. While Santorumholds the big lead among Republicans, Casey offsets that by attracting asimilar percentage of Democratic voters (76.5%).

"This election is still Bob Casey, Jr.'s to lose," McCulloch said. "But Santorumhas now put himself in position for an upset."

"Further research into McCulloch Research and Polling shows that Rod McCulloch, principal at the firm, has been indicted in voter fraud and forgery in Illinois."

What a suprise, more corruption from our friends on the extreme right.

If you are a republican with conservative principals it's time you woke up. Iraq is a disaster, except for war profiteers. This government does not care about our soldiers or our principals (christians do not torture). Our economy has been propped up by a housing bubble that is now popping and over-extended credit. They keep piling the debt on future generations so the rich can get richer, but it is our children who will suffer. Vote democrat or abstain to gain back your party.

What world do you live in?

McCulloch has not been found guilty of anything. Saddam was found guilty and he would still be in power killing the innocent if it was not for our troops. The debt has been cut even after funding the war.

The economy is great and we are at full employment.

Get you head out the talking pionts memo and open your eyes.

I'll be at the polls at 7:00 AM tomorrow to vote for Santorum, Hart, Hockenberry, and Swan.

And remember, Republicans vote on Tuesday, Democrats vote on Wednesday! ;)

I said that in my business class, and three people said "For real? Thanks!!!" I had to tell them I was kidding. Wouldn't have been right had I let them go.

The real world.

Go ahead and trust the McCulloch poll. It's another desperate attempt to fire up the troops, like the fake Kerry outrage.

Taking out Saddam good thing. Creating an environment where tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands Iraqi's are dying not good. 3000 American soldiers dead, now think about the many wounded and families. Now think about all of the money that could have gone to do so much good for our people and the world. No idea when it will end, because there is no plan and never was much of one. We have much different views of progress I think.

Probably you kneel at the altar of Bush and Cheney believing that what we have done in Iraq prevents terrorism at home. Saddam deserves what he gets, but pretending that he had anything to do with 9/11 or had WMD is only a game. In reality we have created many more terrorists and weakened our ability to respond. We have shown the world that freedom is only a word and our flag is only a bumper sticker. As an independent I am thankful the Democrats are standing up and doing what is right.

In 2001 Bush predicted a surplus of $516 billion for 2006. It is actually a deficit of $248 billion. I think he missed his projection by about $764 billion. Thank goodness for Bush's economic policy. By the way the housing bubble is popping and many Americans are running out of credit. Rates will be rising to offset inflation and to put more American's out of work. Heck of a job Republicans.

My eyes are open.
