How a week changes things! Last week, Governor Rendell stated that the Transportation Funding and Reform Commission's report proposal to raise taxes by $1.7 billion would be used as a blue print to fixing roads and public transportation. No mention of leasing the turnpike!
Maybe the governor should not take Federal Highway funds and use them to bail out the Philadelphia public transit system (SEPTA) as he did in 2005.
Would it be too optimistic to hope that the repairs to road and bridges in PA can be done without additional double-digit tax increases?
