The story makes a big deal of the Koran being once owned by Thomas Jefferson, but also notes Jefferson was “a collector of books.” Regardless, Ellison chose to believe, according to the story, “it showed that a visionary like Jefferson believed that wisdom could be gleaned from many sources.”

What they don't tell you is the reason Jefferson had the Koran. Our ships in the area of Africa and the middle east had to deal with the Barbary pirates. They were a blood-thirsty lot. It's where we get the word barbarian. They were also muslim, so Jefferson studied the koran to understand the enemy. After reading the koran, he came to the conclusion that there was no possible way to make peace with muslims. Since they believe they are doing the will of Allah when they kill us, and that's the only reason they need to do so, they had to be conquered and destroyed. He recognized what very few of us see today. You can not make peace with Islam. It is a religion of war and death.
