I Blame Billy Graham

For those of you who listen to the show, many have called into question some the actions of President Bush when it's comes to his religious beliefs. He recently said in an interview with Good Morning America heaven is not exclusive to Christians. Other faiths can get there and we all have different paths. Marty talked about the lack of Jesus in the whitehouse this Christmas. It's mostly secular decorations. Athough there is a crèche on displayed in the East Room. (Oh No... A religious display in a Federal Building sound the alarm!) The President's recent speech did not mention Jesus by name. Before we all pile on the President, it's important to note who is guiding his belief. That man is Rev. Billy Graham. There is a documented conversation in David Aikman's book "A Man Of Faith: The Spiritual Journey of George W. Bush" between president Bush, his Mother Barbara Bush and Rev. Graham. The question of salvation being exclusive to Christians was asked of Rev. Graham to settle a debate between Mother and Son. Graham told the President "Don't worry about it" and said it was not his place to decide who gets to go to heaven. I believe Graham avoidance of the question and his misinformation has caused the President to take action the has angered many Christians. As I repeatedly say, once you go outside the true historical Roman Catholic Church, your views become distorted and you soon will begin to follow the theology of a man more then Christ. I respect Rev. Graham as a godly man, but he is missing some essential elements of faith and the result is a the corruption of Christianity the President displays.

I understand your point. We are called to speak the truth so it's a tough spot for Bush. My bigger concern is that he really believes what he has been told. Not that he chooses who goes to heaven, but false faiths are not included. My point is think Rev. Graham mislead him and twisted what he really believes.
