Loosing Altitude

I hope you had a blessed Christmas and the spirit lives on through the entire year. For any of you traveling by airplane I know it may have been a bit hard to keep that happy spirit...

As I read about the delays, cancellations. Computer failures and the huge amount of US Airways employees who all called in "sick" following a pay cut, leaving thousands stranded and unable to get home for Christmas, what sympathy I had for those who work for airline is now gone. US Airways canceled 176 flights on Friday and 143 flights on Saturday mainly due to "an unusually high number" of flight attendants and other workers calling in sick. The airline flew five planes loaded only with luggage to relieve the backlog of stranded bags throughout the East. You can squabble all you want with the company you work for, but at the end of the day it is the traveler who pays you. The poor person who bought a ticket to to get home to see Mom and Dad or the guy who missed seeing his kids Christmas morning because he was sleeping on the airport floor, that's the person who really got screwed by all the employees who threw their little tantrum, lied and called in sick. You know, if was not for our tax dollar bailout after 9/11 that kept these companies and miserable attitudes afloat, many would have been out of a job a long time ago. So if US Airways, or any other airline, closes up shop in Pittsburgh, I say so long. Maybe a company and employees that value the customer will fill the void.
