Federal authorities arrested a Maryland man, Mahmud Faruq Brent of Gwynn Oak, Maryland for allegedly providing material support to the Pakistan-based Lashkar-i-Taiba terrorist organization. Brent is also known as Mahmud Al Mutazzim.
Brent is accused in a criminal complaint of conspiring to support the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) between 2001 through May 2005 by attending a terrorist training camp the group operated in Pakistan. The complaint also alleges Brent received martial arts training from Tarik Shah, who is under indictment in the southern district of New York on similar charges. Tarik Shah is allegedly a New York jazz musician who was arrested on May 28, 2005 on terrorism charges in a federal sting operation.
