Promoting Abortion around the World

Proponents of abortion never stop working for legalization. In Colombia, lawyers have filed suits arguing that international law requires Colombia to legalize abortion - an astounding claim when one considers (a) that Colombia's own laws forbid abortion and (b) that international law has never recognized a right to abortion.

Colombia's Constitutional Court is expected to rule within the week. Please pray that the Constitutional Court will uphold Colombia's own national laws against the pro-abortion forces. Abortion lawyers hope a favorable ruling in Colombia will lead to decisions of other national courts legalizing abortion throughout Latin America.

Except for communist Cuba, Latin America's laws are pro-life. In a related development, we have learned that the World Bank is holding seminars in Thailand that appear to promote abortion as part of "health sector reform." Pro-abortion forces have always argued that "reproductive health" includes an unfettered right to abortion. Reports have regularly surfaced that international lending institutions have pressured developing countries to "liberalize" their laws on abortion. Pro-abortion groups tried to promote abortion through the Millennium Summit last fall.

We must make sure that countries are not being led to believe that international law or agreements require them to legalize abortion. With President Bush's choice for World Bank president, Paul Wolfowitz, at the helm, the World Bank should not be sponsoring seminars unless they are clear on this point. Please contact the Bank via email at pic@worldbank.org

This is all about population control. These people don't care if the women live or die, as long as they don't bring any more little brown babies into the world.
