This Means WAR

Philips Electronics wants to force you to watch commercials! I'm a flipper and darn proud of it. I grab the remote a see what else I can fit into my brain during the 60 seconds that the Di Tech commercial (that I've seen 10,000 times) comes on. But now viewers one day could be forced to watch commercials with a system that prevents channel-switching.

Royal Philips Electronics has a patent application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a technology that could let broadcasters freeze up a channel during a commercial, so viewers would not be able to avoid it. (Now this calls fro a pre-emptive strike!)

Philips acknowledged, however, the anti-channel-changing technology might not sit well with consumers and suggested in its patent filing consumers be allowed to avoid the feature if they paid broadcasters a fee.

We will be back with more on this story after a word from our sponsors .....

Never happen. The number of foot-through-tv injuries would cause the ACLU to file suit!

I personally like the idea of just beaming commercials into people's sleep.
