Family Research Council: The Senate is expected to approve the Defense authorization bill and send it to a House and Senate Conference committee where it is sure to get bogged down because of Senators Kennedy (D-MA) and Smith (R-OR) attaching their hate crimes amendment.
By hijacking the bill and adding "hate crimes" they have severely crippled the bill's chances of passage. This puts our brave men and women at risk just so that they can curry favor with homosexuals.
Kennedy insists that "hate crimes" are relevant additions to the bill because homosexuals face the threat of "domestic terrorism." As the editors of The Washington Times noted on Monday, "The senator appears to think that the American people are idiots--unable to distinguish between jihadists, often with the support of foreign governments, who... blow up mosques, railway stations, and hotels on the one hand, and ordinary street hoodlums in this country whose apprehension and prosecution has traditionally been the responsibility of state and local government authorities on the other hand.
At the time of the signing of the Constitution, the idea that “all men are created equal” was radical. The Constitutional guarantees of no protected classes, no group rights, but uniform individual rights and responsibilities have long made up the bedrock of this nation. So called “Hate Crimes” proposals violate the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment.
