I think the practice of retiring numbers is inane. Well there have been many good ballplayers and athletes in many sports, many receive this type of honor without serving humanity.
Roberto died in the service to his fellow human beings in need. While he did a great thing, does retiring his number really provide anything except one less number to be handed out on a uniform.
