Presbyterian Minister Faces Rape Charge

Associated Press

A Presbyterian minister has been ordered to stand trial on charges he raped a patient at an assisted living center for people with Alzheimer's disease.
The Rev. Ariano Tiem is charged with the rape, institutional sexual assault and indecent assault of an 84-year-old female patient on April 30 at Arden Courts in Monroeville, where he worked as a caregiver.

A caregiver testified at Tiem's preliminary hearing yesterday that she saw Tiem sexually assault the patient. Patele Shaame said Tiem was taking more than twice as long as needed to change a patient and when she entered the room, she saw Tiem having sex with the woman and confronted him. Tiem, 64, of Wilkinsburg, remains in the Allegheny County Jail.

Tiem is an ordained minister with the Brazilian arm of the Presbyterian Church. The Pittsburgh Presbytery in 2000 had given Tiem money to start a congregation that would have served the area's Portuguese-speaking community, but the church never got off the ground.

Hi! Before all of this happened to my dad, he was already having a very hard time with his coworkers, especially because my dad was a hard working man and was getting all of the awards and money raises because of it. So what really happened was persecution because my dad was Brazilian. Prove is that according to an examination at Forbes Regional Hospital indicated that the woman “did not appear to have had sexual relations,” the affidavit states. Because it never happened. This kind of charge is very serious in most countries so of course my dad was arrested and since my dad would never do and never did anything of this kind or any other kind of illegal actions, no prove was ever found and the other "witness" never showed up in court. My dad died in prison as an innocent man. Thank you.

By the way this statement: "Tiem is an ordained minister with the Brazilian arm of the Presbyterian Church. The Pittsburgh Presbytery in 2000 had given Tiem money to start a congregation that would have served the area's Portuguese-speaking community, but the church never got off the ground." Is also incorrect. My dad founded the First Brazilian Christian Church of Pittsburgh in 1994 and our lives were ruined when the Pittsburgh Presbytery came along in 1999 wanting my dad to became an ordained minister as a Brazilian arm of the Pittsburgh Presbytery USA. At this time we were also member of the Hebrom Church which was also one of the Pittsburgh Presbyterie's churches. When we received the seed money, our church already existed since 1994! It was an OFFERING to our church and my dad was promised by them that they would get him a work visa so that he would be able to officially work for the Presbytery (at this time we were living legally in the US under student visa). For this, they paid our return to Brazil so, according to them, their immigration's lawyer hired by them could continue with the process. After living in Pittsburgh for 9 years, we left to Brazil in December 2000 to return on February 2001 but for some reason that we still don't understand to this day, their lawyer failed, we were never able to return to our home in Pittsburgh and we lost EVERYTHING. The Pittsburgh Presbytery didn't even care to place our personal belongings in boxes and ship to us in Brazil. Our home and everything we had inside plus our 3 cars were left as abandoned and we had to start from ZERO here in Brazil. That's the truth. My dad was the only one that was able to return, in 2003 when he finally was able to get a tourist visa. He tried to go after answers but was even stopped by at the time our pastor from Hebrom Church. So my dad decided to stay in the US to work and send as money. That's when all of this situation in the Assisted Living Center happened. This is the whole truth and noting but the truth. Thank you.
