Porn, The President and Politics

While officially White House spokesmen continue to pretend they are unaware a pornographer and a porn star will attend a presidential fund-raising dinner for Republican congressional candidates, the adult-film company behind the gimmick is making the most of the photo opportunity the event presents.

Mark Kulkis, president of Kick A-- Pictures, which specializes in hard-core porn, has issued press releases explaining "he was personally invited to" the 2005 President's Dinner and proclaiming his presence, along with that of his guest, porn star Mary Carey, will "make pop culture history."

The table was bought with a sizable contribution to the NRCC. Prompting the questions, should Republicans accept donations from tax paying, law abiding pornographers?

A spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee, which is hosting President Bush at a $2,500-a-plate fund-raiser next week, said the couple is welcome because they paid their money like everyone else.

You may recall Carey ran for California governor against Arnold Schwarzenegger on a platform that included taxing breast enhancements, making lap dances tax deductible, recruiting porn stars as "ambassadors of good will" and putting Web cams up in every room of the governor's mansion.

Kulkis' $5,000 check also affords Carey and him tickets to the Chairman's Luncheon June 14 and Welcome Reception June 13, as well as a tour of Washington, D.C. The luncheon features Rove and is hosted by NRCC Chairman Rep. Tom Reynolds, R- N.Y.
