Here is what radio talk-show host Michael Savage had to say on March 28 about the Catholic Church's response to the immigration issue:
It is a pig story! It"s animal farm all over again. And also make no bones about it, itÂs the greedy Catholic Church that was behind it because the people of America walked away from the molesters dens and they need to bring in people from the Third World who are still gullible enough to sit there and listen to the molesters the Roman Catholic Church was behind this, the Roman Catholic Church started this a year ago. The Roman Catholic Church flooded the streets because they cannot get parishioners anymore amongst educated white people who have caught onto the racket and instead they need to import dummies to sit in the church pews. That's the story and it is not difficult for you to understand I'm telling you the truth. It's all about greed. It's greed at the top of the Catholic Church.
Make no mistake about why this is happening. This has nothing to do with compassion for Mexican workers. This has nothing to do with fairness for Mexican workers, it has to do with the greed. That"s all there is to it. And that includes the Catholic Church pigs. And if you don"t like it, don"t listen to the show, I really don't care anymore. I'm not going to be duped by this sanctimonious garbage that all churches are good and that the institution itself is good. Bah humbug. The institution is rotten from the top to the bottom.
Some of you may agree with every word muttered by Mr. Savage. That's fine. This America. he has a right tacceptit, you can accpet or reject. I choose to reject it. I'll tell you why, I'm part of the institution that Mr. Savage calls "rotten from the top to the bottom".
I would like Mr. Savage to speak to 10 random members of the Catholic Church. Sit down, talk to them. Find out if they are rotten. Talk to pastors who minister to the sick. Talk to the men who have lived there life in service to God and His Church and never once touched or abuse a child. Those men FAR outnumber those who should be in prison.
Talk to the nuns who work in missons, hospitals and shelters around the world. Tell the people who found hope though Sister Theresa that she was rotten.
Take a momment to realize Mr. Savage that the Catholic church feeds, clothes, educates and protects millions of people everyday. Much more then any government program. Realize that our modern hospitals, institutes of higher learning and the very basis of our laws and values in this free nation were brought to people through the Catholic church.

I had the misfortune of hearing some of this rant when I had the misfortune of hearing Savage's show. Personally, I was waiting for a Catholic to call him up and rip him a new one. Unfortunately, the few calls he took seemed to be heavily filtered through his call screener.
There was one thing he said I completely agree with:
And if you don't like it, don't listen to the show,
Excellent advice!!!

In reference to that comment, he said I really don't care anymore.
He will when his listenership is so small that stations start dropping his shows. Clear Channel charges 1/3 the amount for ads on his show than on Quinn, and 1/2 the amount for ads on Beck, Limbaugh and Hannity. That tells you something right there about his listenership.
Although personally, Savage is so outrageously negative, I don't know how ANYONE can listen to him for any length of time! I also don't think there is a demographic in America that he doesn't insult regularly on his "show".
One has to consider the source regarding Savage, but I still think more Catholics are too passive and need to stand up to bullies like him.
To listen to him takes a grain of salt ... it just weighs six tons!
Savage is more than a little over the top. That gives his detractors plenty of ammunition with which to shoot down his ideas. This piece is a perfect example. He's dead-on in his assessment. The Catholic church has lost membership and money in recent years. One cannot deny that. Churches are consolidating, resulting in the closure of churches parishoners have attended for generations. The church sees illegal immigrants as replacements, since most are practiciing Catholics in their native countries. Those are his main points. They cannot be disputed. Unfortunately, he rants and generalizes about the worst members of the church - indicting everyone for the sins of the few. That's where detractors focus, taking the spotlight off the issue.
