MEXICO TO LEGALIZE DRUGS

From the story: Mexico’s president Vicente Fox says he will sign the new bill that legalizes small amounts of drugs like marijuana, ecstasy and cocaine for personal use. (FNIF) Late last week, another story noted “If signed into law, the bill could have an impact on Mexico's relationship with the United States — and on the vast numbers of vacationing students who visit Mexico, often to take advantage of its rarely enforced drinking age of 18.” (FOX News)

I think this is the stupidest move done by anybody since the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the 40's. How do you allow for your own people to harm themselves while you watch on the sidelines? This will make the drug war in the US and elsewhere harder to fight now since drug cartels will gain more power.

Time to build the wall, and make it higher! I feel for any parent in San Diego.

I disagree. Legalizing and regulating the use of drugs could take away the only leverage that the drug cartels and smugglers have--the drugs. You legalize drugs you get rid of the black market. Instead of punishing the users who will use whether it is illegal or not, you can effectively cut off the trade supplied by the cartel. Also educating people and discouraging the use of drugs should be a priority as well. This would be similar to how the laws are in the Netherlands. And last time I checked society has not collapsed over there but instead runs pretty smoothly and probably better than the U.S and Mexico.
