A mainline Presbyterian who teaches at an Evangelical Lutheran seminary says the future of both denominations is threatened by divisions over homosexuality and same-sex "marriage." But Rev. Katie Day does not want the issue settled with a constitutional amendment defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman.
While traditionalists would welcome an end to challenges to their churches' historic teachings, Day told reporters on Capitol Hill that she would not want a constitutional ban on homosexual marriage to "chill" the debate. Day is a professor of church and society at The Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia.
Southern Baptist churches in the U.S., meanwhile, have been asked by one of their denomination's agencies to observe June 4 as "Marriage Protection Sunday." Pastors in those churches are being asked to address same-sex marriage on that day, and to encourage their congregations to ask their senators to support the proposed Federal Marriage Amendment.
The Senate will begin debating the proposed federal marriage amendment the week of June 5.

It's always interesting when we hear from a woman who calls herself "pastor"... ;)
