Minimum Wage, Maximum Pandering

Now this is just what Pennsylvania’s businesses need: A cleverly disguised income redistributing tax increase. Of course, it goes by the more politically palatable name of minimum wage hike. The Legislature is closing in on a bill that will boost the state’s minimum wage to $7.15 per hour by July 1, 2007; January 1, 2008 if the Senate version passes. I could not agree more. The current debate over the minimum wage is steeped in ignorance about who the working poor are and how best to help them. Specifically, an expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit would be much more effective at helping the working poor than an increase in the minimum wage.

Nah - let them raise the minimum wage and watch as the workers they help get left behind as small business owners start to retire. Seeign as these owners are more than likely baby-boomers it'll spark an unprecendented burden on society as well in all sorts of ways.
