UN Switcheroo
The United States State Department has switched its position and voted in favor of giving Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) status at the UN to two homosexual groups, the German LSVD and the International Lesbian and Gay Association-Europe. Despite the U.S. support, the two European homosexual groups were rejected by a vote of 9-7, with two abstentions. Earlier this year, the U.S. delegation voted against Danish and Belgian homosexual groups' application for NGO status. Homosexual organizations attributed this switch to lobbying by the Human Rights Campaign, The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA), and others. The aberrant U.S. vote is deeply troubling at a time when U.S. homosexual groups are desperately trying to redefine marriage. The Netherlands, the first country to embrace same-sex marriage, provides yet another example of things to come if we fail to protect marriage. A new political party has formed there for the purpose of lobbying to lower the age of consent for sex to 12 and to decriminalize child pornography. American scholar Stanley Kurtz has argued that once marriage falls, there is no logical stopping point for what will be advanced in terms of "protected" minority status for sexual conduct.
