Delegates to the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting punched out numbers on orange ballots Tuesday, voting in rare contested election to determine the leader of the nation's largest Protestant denomination.
Voting began after the nomination of three candidates who promised differing leadership styles for the 16.2-million member denomination. An immediate runoff was planned between the top two candidates if no one received more than 50 percent of the vote.

I heard a great quote from the convention: That the vision was to start The First Baptist Church of Mecca.
