From the story: Ethanol, widely touted as a greenhouse-gas-cutting fuel, would have serious health effects if heavily used in cars, producing more ground-level ozone than gasoline, particularly in the Los Angeles Basin, according to a Stanford University study out today.

Not only that, but it is causing a spike in corn prices. Mexico was having "tortilla riots" over the increased cost of food due to so much corn being bought up for Ethanol.
Its that pesky Cause & Effect again.
