IMUS FIRED, CBS PLAYS RIGHTEOUS

CBS President Les Moonves wrote to his staff "In taking him off the air, I believe we take an important and necessary step not just in solving a unique problem, but in changing that culture, which extends far beyond the walls of our company.” (FOX News)

Great but CBS is owned by Viacom, which seemed to have little problem with the constantly insulting Howard Stern. They made a ton of money off ofensive radio even in the local markets including Pittsburgh. In fact they are still doing it with the launch of raunch radio 93.7 in Pittsburgh.

Speaking of “culture” problems, Simon and Schuster which, according to the publisher’s own website, is the “publishing operation of CBS corporation” is the same company that pushed a book about oral sex for kids two years ago. (USA Today)

Viacom also controls a good chunk of the rap industry while at the same time pushing networks like Nickeloden to kids.

From Time Magazine: Imus crossed a line, boorishly, creepily, paleolithically. But where is that line nowadays? (Time) Bozell asks “where were these people when the subject was gangsta rap? Arrogant and profane multimillionaires routinely insult and deride people, especially black women, with language one hundredfold more offensive than anything that ever came out of the I-Man's mouth?” (Townhall) S

Some Democrats are worried about the loss of Imus. (LA Times) From Medved: when all the avatars of political correctness work themselves into a frothing lynch mob frenzy over a minor (though unjustifiable) offense, it’s hard not to feel sorry for the guy. The level of public indignation and self-righteous hysteria clearly exceeds the intensity of the offense. (Townhall) Medved, Prager and Hewitt discussed the mess on the air. (Townhall) Meanwhile, Jason Whitlock says of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton “If judged by the results they’ve produced the last 20 years, you’d have to regard their administration as a total failure. Seriously, compared to Martin and Malcolm and the freedoms and progress their leadership produced, Jesse and Al are an embarrassment.” (AOL)
