Gene Ricciardi plans to give up the presidency of Pittsburgh City Council on Nov. 15, according to an e-mail message he sent to council members yesterday. Mr. Ricciardi is virtually assured of election to a district judgeship Nov. 8. His e-mail said he wants "to dedicate all my time and energy to my council district" prior to leaving council for his new job in January.
Upon Mr. Ricciardi's resignation from the presidency, council members will vote on a new leader to serve out the year. That new president will guide the nine city legislators through the process of passing a 2006 budget.
