Powerblog is sadden to report with the permission of a judge, but against the wishes of his mother, a 5-month-old baby with a fatal genetic disorder was removed from life support and died this afternoon at Texas Children's Hospital.
According to the Houston Chronicle, bioethicists say this is the first time a U.S. judge has ever let a hospital discontinue life support on a living baby.
Sun Hudson was diagnosed with a form of dwarfism characterized by a tiny chest and lungs too small to support life. He had been on a ventilator since birth.
