William Bennett and Extinction
By Shaun Pierce
When you work in the media (as I do), every word you utter must be clear and carefully thought out. That's not always easy when you are responding to others at the spur of the moment. Sometimes what you mean to say and what you actually say are often a million miles apart. Despite that, those that are entrusted with TV, radio, print or even the web must accept that reality and responsibility.
Even I have had to explain the things I have said and written. Yet unless I'm willing to defend my comments at every turn, it would be foolish for me to make them.
What Mr. Bennett was trying to do and what he did are two very different things. He was attempting to highlight some of the more extreme justifications for abortion. While that in itself is a noble cause that I would support, his example of such did more harm then good.
Mr. Bennett is no stranger to attacks and the dangers of public comments. He is the former education secretary and hosts his own radio show. So I can not chalk this up to ignorance.
I don't think Mr. Bennett had a racist agenda in mind when he said:
"I do know that it’s true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could, if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down.”
The true tragedy of abortion has been overshadowed by poor choice of comment. If all humans ceased reproduction by exercising their so called "right to abortion," not only would the crime rate drop, poverty would end and talk show hosts would no longer utter words they later regret.
The real truth here abortion allows us the ability to create our own extinction. To solve the problems of the world just remove man. God himself had to rethink that strategy. Mr. Bennett may want to rethink his.
