I was saddened to hear James Brown whose hit songs such as "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" and "Cold Sweat" helped make him one of the most influential singers of the second half of the 20th century and an icon of African-American pride, died in Atlanta.
Years ago I had the pleasure of meeting James Brown. He pulled up to Three Rivers Stadium in a strech limo about a block long, with strobe lights and a hot tub in the back. "Godfather of Soul" painted on the back. No subtle entrance fo him.
Despite his personal and legal troubles over the years, the man knew how to put on show. His music is forever part of the soundtrack of America. We have lost another great talent.
