GOP To Try To Downsize City Council

In 1990, Pittsburgh’s population was 369,879. In that same year, the Pittsburgh City Council established nine seats.

Almost seventeen years later, Pittsburgh’s population has dropped over 14%, to 316,718. Should the Pittsburgh City Council reflect this change, dropping to seven seats?

The Pittsburgh GOP, in hopes to garner the first Republican City Council seat in some 70 years, is pushing for this change. They want two of the proposed seven seats to be elected at large.
