Democrat Senate candidate Al Franken's fiction has become reality for his campaign. In 2003, Franken wrote a book entitled "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them." Today, perhaps Franken should write an addendum entitled "Al Franken Admits to Being One of Them."
Al Franken had a $25,000 judgment against him and his company Alan Franken Inc. for failing to pay workers' compensation insurance.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported that Franken's campaign claimed "...that neither Franken nor his wife, Franni, were aware of the matter before Tuesday. They have lived in Minneapolis for the past few years and did not know about the state's attempts to reach them in New York City, [campaign spokesman Andy Barr] said."
This, despite the fact that New York City attempted to reach Franken no less than 11 times -- the most recent being this past January, according to the Star-Tribune. Although Franken claims to have moved to Minnesota, he continued to use a New York City address through at least October 2005. At least two of the notices were sent to Franken before October of 2005.
So it should come as no surprise that today -- after trying to beg off responsibility -- Al Franken decided to settle up.
According to The Associated Press, "Senate candidate Al Franken will pay a $25,000 fine to the state of New York for failure to carry workers' compensation insurance." (The Associated Press, 3/6/08)
