NY GOVERNOR SPITZER A CLIENT OF PROSTITUTION

Well this is a bit ugly. The governor, a Democrat in his first term, returned to his Fifth Avenue apartment and remained there on Monday night, receiving counsel from his advisers and weighing a possible resignation, an aide said. (NY Times)

Another story notes “At the national level, the specter of corruption by a major Democratic governor threatened to undercut the Democrats' "culture of corruption" campaign that worked in 2006 against the Bush administration and Republicans in Congress, analysts said yesterday. It could also hurt at least one of their potential presidential nominees, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York.” (Washington Times)

Carol Platt Liebau called the Spitzer admission of guilt sans the resignation “part of a new ethical calculus concluding that -- uniquely in the constellation of virtues -- sexual morality is a subjective and purely personal matter that's of relevance only to "religious" people (or else prurient and "judgmental" ones), even when it impacts the public.” (Townhall)

Hillary had no comment on Spitzer, who is a superdelegate pledged to Hillary. (AP)

You may remember, in an October Democratic debate, Hillary refused to say if she’s in favor of Spitzer’s proposal to provide driver's licenses to illegal immigrants. (USA Today)

From the Wall Street Journal: Where were the media before this? With a few exceptions, the media were happy to prosper from his leaks and even applaud, rather than temper, the manifestly abusive instincts of a public official. (WSJ)
