A Roman Catholic bishop has become the first in the U.S. to disclose that he was sexually abused by a priest.
Auxiliary Bishop Thomas Gumbleton of Detroit said the abuse occurred 60 years ago when he was in the ninth grade at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit and spent weekends with a priest and another boy in a cabin.
He said he was "exploited as a teenager through inappropriate touching by a priest.”
The revelation came as Bishop Gumbleton, 75, called for state legislatures to temporarily remove time limits that have prevented many victims of sexual abuse from suing the church, the Washington Post reports.
