The Pennsylvania Republican Party's position in the governor's race could effectively be decided this evening as GOP officials from southwestern Pennsylvania gather in Monroeville to be counted in the battle between Lynn Swann and former Lt. Gov. Bill Scranton.
A strong showing for Mr. Swann could put him over the top in unofficial tallies for the state party's endorsement, to be decided in voting in Harrisburg on Feb. 11.
The southwest regional meeting comes a day after Kenneth Davis, Republican chairman of Montgomery County, announced his support for Mr. Swann and predicted that all 24 members of his county's delegation, largest in the state, would vote for the former broadcaster and Steelers receiver next month.
