American Christian evangelicals are negotiating with the Israeli government for permission to build "Galilee World Heritage Park," a biblical theme park by the Sea of Galilee and north-east of the Mount of the Beatitudes where Jesus delivered the Sermon on the Mount, according to The Guardian, a British newspaper.
Headed by television evangelist Pat Robertson, the consortium of Christian groups is expected to complete negotiations with the Israeli ministry of tourism in the coming months.
The project, near where Jesus is said to have walked on water and fed a multitude with five loaves and two fish, is expected to bring nearly 1 million attract tourists a year.
The idea of the park is feared by some Israelis who reportedly perceive that an unspoken aim of the evangelicals may be the conversion of the Jews to Christianity.
