WHERE THERE'S SMOKE THERE $$$

All those new smoking bans are hurting state budgets. You can't kill the cash cow and still expect milk!

A Democrat lamented “The taxes on smoking are being used to fund education, they're being used to fund health care, they're being used to fund real things. Now, if we eliminate smoking, does it mean that those things go away?” I can see the billboards now “Support Your Schools, Start Smoking Today.”

It would be interesting to see the reaction if R. J. Reynolds simply decided not to sell its product in a particular state that is giving it grief.

I would wager that some state legislators, not understanding that it is a company’s prerogative to not sell its product in a particular state in a free market economy, would draft legislation to force R. J. Reynolds to keep selling its products in the state.
