US Chopper Down

Al Qaeda in Iraq said on Thursday it shot down a U.S. helicopter in Ramadi on Wednesday, killing the two Marine crewmen, and the U.S. military said it was investigating reports it was brought down by a missile.

Charred and twisted wreckage from the Super Cobra helicopter was still strewn over the garden of a damaged house in Ramadi on Thursday, and children played around it, balancing on what appeared to be a rotor blade.

"Your brothers in the military wing of al Qaeda in Iraq brought down a Super Cobra helicopter in Ramadi with a missile," said in a brief statement issued on a Web site often used by Iraqi insurgents.
