Pittsburgh City Council today fired Sheryl Pinson-Smith, who pleaded no contest Tuesday to theft and conspiracy charges in relation to former Councilwoman Twanda Carlisle's corruption case.
Ms. Pinson-Smith, 49, of Lawrenceville, had been an administrative assistant since July 31, 2006, earning $24,600 a year. She was charged with helping to shift some $13,200 from the city to Ms. Carlisle's campaign and personal accounts, out of $43,160 the former councilwoman received in kickbacks from three consultants.
Both are to be sentenced on Feb. 4.
